About Hypnotherapy

SOME QUESTIONS ANSWERED ABOUT HYPNOTHERAPY

Can everyone be hypnotised?

Yes and around 96% of people find it no worries whatsoever, we all enter natural states of relaxation or trance everyday and these are the states that we will be using.

It is true that some people will be more easily hypnotised than others and this will depend on several factors such as the individuals trust and confidence in the therapist, their understanding of hypnosis, their personal needs, certain, environmental factors and personal belief in their ability to be hypnotised.

Even the 4% can be, there are always ways of helping and I will always adapt. I will also be honest if I feel that I can’t hypnotize you or if that I feel that hypnotherapy isn’t the best root for you.

Will I be aware of what is happening?

Yes, you will be aware at all times and as much as you are in your normal daily activities

You will be in a relaxed, safe state and in total control at all times. Many clients experiencing hypnotherapy for the first time are surprised at how aware they are, and of exactly what I am saying to them.

You do not go “out”, “under” or “to sleep”, you will not “lose control”. We do not use swinging watches or flickering flames. Many clients who do arrive a little wary of hypnotherapy, are delighted at how good, positive and confident they feel after a session.

Will I lose control?

No, you will be totally in control at all times, and will not do or say anything you would not usually do. At any time you can terminate hypnosis if you decide to do so.

Can I be made to say or do something against my morals?

No, you will completely stick to your morals and cannot be made to do anything against your will or morals.

Will I be aware and remember everything I said?
Yes, you will be completely aware of what is happening at all times, and will remember everything you have said at the end of the session.

And finally just to dispel one idea around hypnotherapy

I will under no circumstances ever say “you are feeling sleepy” or “look into my eyes, look into my eyes, the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, don’t look around my eyes, look into my eyes, you’re under”  like Little Britain hypnotist Kenny Craig might say.

Also around the “You’re Back in the Room” show – the people which go on stage will be extroverts and know the type of thing they’ll be asked to do – and they comply. Also bear in mind the show will be edited.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis or trance states are naturally occurring states which we all drift in and out of throughout our day. for example have you ever daydreamed your way through a meeting? or travelled somewhere without remembering much about the journey? these are trance states. you know what is going on around you whilst being completely relaxed like being in a “daydream”. studies have shown that we spend 90% of our time in such states.

There is no one definitive explanation of what hypnosis is and it’s interesting to note that everybody experiences it in a very different way, but the main feeling everyone experiences is a profound sense of relaxation.

What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

Cognitive hypnotherapy is an approach rather than just a set of techniques. It takes recent understandings of how the brain works, uses NLP methods and a modern view of the use of trance to create a combination that can be very effective in a relatively short period of time. Many problems can be helped in as little as 2-4 sessions.

Cognitive hypnotherapy uses an approach to therapy which is tailored to suit the person. This is because we are all different and all give different meanings and reasons to the things that happen to us. My role as the therapist is to act as a guide to help you find your own solutions so that you can take control of your own life once again.

Within Cognitive hypnotherapy we believe that everyone has all the inner resources they need to solve their problem. As a cognitive hypnotherapist I do not believe that there is a universal solution. This is on the basis that we all already unconsciously possess the answers to our own questions. Cognitive hypnotherapy uses your natural trance states to assist in uncovering the thoughts and memory patterns that led to the problem you’re experiencing. Cognitive hypnotherapy employs techniques to modify these patterns so that you are able to consciously take control of your behaviour by using naturally occurring states to enable change by by-passing the conscious mind which is holding the problem state. Hopefully now you know more about hypnotherapy and how I can help you.
